Therapeutic sand Play is an effective and early intervention for younger children.
It allows children to non-verbally process difficult emotions through interacting with the sand tray and figures. Using this intervention the child doesn't struggle with words to express painful or uncomfortable feelings.
Sessions are child-led: they chose the toys to play with in sand, or focuses on the sensory effects of sand in silence.
In the session the child creates their own fanasty 'world' in which they play.
This therapeutic intervention facilitates the child's engagement with their fictional world and we talk about their game, making each session fun, stress-free and magical.
After completing the course, children feel better-able to control and manage their emotions and behaviour; generally feeling happier than before.
This intervention would suit young children aged 5-11, or individuals with SEND. Especially as it is a tactile and playful intervention, that relies on the senses as well as the storytelling aspect.
